The BATTLE ISLE®
series
In 1991, Blue Byte Software released their first strategy title, BATTLE
ISLE 1. The game
elements took shape into what has become a kind of trademark for the entire BATTLE ISLE
series: Tactic and strategy combined with extraordinary game depth, detailed graphics and a
rich background story. Instead of the standard black-white clichés, the BATTLE ISLE story
offered multifaceted characters with inner conflicts, characters with which gamers could more
readily identify. The success of the game was inevitable, and BATTLE ISLE 2 (1993), BATTLE
ISLE 3 (1995) and the action-filled tactical game INCUBATION (1997) followed. INCUBATION was
the first game in the BATTLE ISLE series to offer a complete 3D environment. Currently, the
series contains a total of 4 mission CDs and Data disks. Over 650,000 copies of the BATTLE
ISLE games have been sold to date, and the series has received numerous worldwide honors and
awards. Now, Blue Byte Software presents to you the fifth installment in the BATTLE ISLE
series.
The Story
We are on Chromos - it is the year 345 of the New Age. The Emperor Wars are now only legends;
the catastrophe of Scayra seems forgotten. Under the leadership of an alluringly mysterious
figure, the sect of the "Children of Haris" is founded on Merth. Its motto: Peace
through War! Its goals: the dissolution of the corrupt system on Chromos and the establishment
of the dictatorship by its charismatic high priestess!
The activities of the sect seem to focus on the production of Andosia, a mysterious secretion.
Gradually the sect is able to draw more and more followers and build up a center of military
power. The leadership of Hallwa fails to recognize the threat and finally has nothing to
counter the open declaration of war that follows. Hallwa stands defenseless as the Chromian
leadership receives an extremely puzzling offer from the high priestess of the sect ...
The Game
BATTLE ISLE: THE ANDOSIA WAR is an entirely new kind of conflict simulation, combining
elements of real-time and turn-based strategy in an action-packed mixture. The player is
immersed in a complex world where both economic finesse and military expertise are essential.
Powered by a revolutionarily new engine, the game is presented completely in 3D with an
unprecedented richness of detail. For the first time it will be possible to see the planet
Chromos with its beautiful landscapes and dazzling colors, and to move freely in the 3D world
of Chromos with its units and characters.
Tactics and Strategy
In the tradition of the BATTLE ISLE series, the tactical aspects of the game are carried out
in turn-based mode. In contrast to a pure real- time strategy, this allows not only more game
depth but also more lavish graphic effects, zooms and camera chases, immersing the player in
every event. For the execution of military actions, humans with their strengths and
weaknesses, as well as tanks, gunboats, inter-island missiles, and plasma artillery are
available. Light conditions change during the course of the day. The weather, the seasons and
even the tides play a key role in producing goods and planning tactics and strategy. Only
quick and flexible planning, the skillful allocation of resources and good judgment will be
the keys to success!
The Economy
A core component of the strategy in THE ANDOSIA WAR involves securing the necessary resources
and carefully planning how they are to be used. Raw materials must be collected; factories,
research facilities and power plants have to be built and transportation systems have to be
created. Depending on the stage of economic and scientific development, the production of a
diverse range of armaments is possible. All of this, including the actions of the player, take
place in real time and continue in the background while the player plans and sets up his
military maneuvers.
A New Genre
With its combination of real-time and turn-based elements, THE ANDOSIA WAR establishes a new
game genre. It opens up gaming possibilities of an entirely new dimension of complexity
without falling into a click-fest so prevalent in pure real-time games. The constantly
changing conditions in real time lead to new game situations which have to be dealt with by
tweaking operation plans on the battlefield and optimizing resource planning. On the border
between exciting real-time maneuvers and the demands of strategic planning, a new, exciting
kind of game experience emerges where there is a time for cool planning, quick reactions,
discovery of stunning landscapes and time for pursuing exciting mission goals!
